Coffee Names

Uh, Wednesday again. It feels like the week is just dragging. I’m definitely going to need a jolt of caffeine to get through the day. I mean this beverage truly is the reason we wake up in the mornings, right?

On to the most important question of the day. What kind of coffee do we want this morning? A fresh black cup of Maxwell house? German originated Jacobs? Maybe a bit of Caffee Cimo this morning.

While we’ve got our fresh pot brewing us up a hot one lets look back at history and remember where it all started. From cherries. Yep, the little berries of the cocoa plants are called Cherries. These cherries contain the coffee beans. Legend has it an Ethiopian goat herder named Kaldi discovered the coffee plant during the 9th century. If Cherry can be the main girl in The Outsiders then your daughter Cherry will be the main character in her story too.

Did someone say coffee beans? This little bean is very important to lovers of the beverage so why not gift the name to your own little bean. Kurt Cobain choice this as a middle name for his daughter Frances in 1992. Whether you choose bean as a first, middle or nickname, Bean may be the new Jean of our generation.

Inspiration for names are all over the place, especially when it comes to honoring the most important coffee lovers in our lives. Want to honor Auntie Jean but you also want to honor cousin Hazel who works in coding? Don’t worry, we’ve got the perfect blend of both. An informal word that means coffee is Java. This name is rarely ever heard but it fits in with the spunky bohemian choices of Wren and Jade.

Did you know Kauai coffee also comes from a plant. This brand of coffee comes from the Rubiaceae family. These tropical flowering trees blossom these gorgeous white petals with the helping hand of a few bumble bees.

Okay, our fresh pot is done brewing. Back to our coffee. Let's decide if we want make this a Caramel Macchiato? A Vienna? Valencia? Do we want to add a bit of Baileys Irish cream or make this a a Lottie, I mean Latte.

Woah, clearly we're gonna need all the caffeine we can get.

*Takes a sip* Mmh.. that's much better!

Penny for your thoughts? I’d love to sit down and tell you all about one penny coffee. Thousands of coffee houses opened their doors all across England during the end of the 17th Century. During the 19th century these coffee joints were renamed Penny Universities. For only a penny, customers could buy a cup of coffee and learn vast knowledge through the political, commercial and philosophical discussions going on inside. Fast forward to the 1940s where a nickel opened a lot of doors and could get you you a cup of coffee for a nickel. Making number names like Quincy the perfect pairing next to pretty Penny.

Today we've got coffee shops and franchises on every street corner charging an arm and a leg, but yet we keep going back to those big chain retailers time and time again.

Whether you are a Dunkin fan or a Starbucks fan, one things for certain is that both franchises offer great name play. Irish surname Duncan and word name Star both offer great name play to the two biggest franchises that supply this decadent delight. Those hard working baristas are life savers during those rush out the door days. Which reminds me, Barista is only one extra letter from the name Arista. An aristocratic choice to bestow on your child.

Wow I think we started today out strong with our cup of joe. Hey! That's another name idea! Joe may be the most obvious choice here but also quite a subtle nod to the drink given the fact that it is a common name already but it's still a great choice non the less.

Oh coffee, we couldn’t have conquered the day without you. Literally! So grab your favorite cup of joe and take a sip of these names for the coffee lover in your life.
