Sagittarius Baby
Zodiac Sign Sagittarius enters the spotlight starting November 22 until December 21st landing right in the midst of the holiday season.
Your Sagittarius baby will be full of optimism, enthusiasm and adventure. They have a glass half-full view on life with such a kind-hearted soul. This fire sign has a free spirit wise beyond their years matched with a bright warm welcoming personality that’ll make you melt.
If you’re expecting a fiery Sagittarian this season consider these names for your newborn son or daughter.
Bow an Arrow
Sagittarians are represented by the archer making Archer the obvious choice for your baby boy. We are swooning over Archie as a nickname for Archer and we must say, we adore this modern take for honoring an Archibald in the family. For something a bit more noble and semi theatrical you could choose Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt and archery. Another Greek God to put on the top of your list is Apollo. Apollo is commonly known as being the God of music and healing and poetry; but he is also known as the Greek God of archery. We know at least as Olympic gods go, this one takes the gold.
When we think of the bow an arrow, the hopeless romantic in us can’t help but wander our eye over at cupid. You know we’ve all been struck by that arrow before. While Cupid is a usable option we prefer Eros slightly more. Sticking with “E” names we can’t continue without mentioning Evander. Evander is of Scottish origin meaning “Strong Man and Bow Warrior”. A strong name indeed.
One name that is favorably trending is Fletcher. Fletcher is an Old French name meaning “Arrow Maker”. There is also Ivor or even Iverson that can represent your little archer if your looking for a name with Scandinavian or Old Norse roots.
Working our way down the alphabet we came across Kyler. This name blend of Kyle meets Tyler is of Dutch origin meaning “Bowman Archer”. Kyker has been on the rise amongst young parents but we must warn you, you might have to repeat it a few times when introducing your baby boy (to others) as it’s not a common name.
With Disney darlings Mickey and Minnie’s recent birthday fresh on our minds we wanted to include our favorite Disney princess on this list - Merida from the movie Brave as she was an archer.
Up in Space
Being named after a planet would be out of this world! Especially being named after the biggest planet in our solar system. Jupiter will match your daughters larger than life personality. Actress Ashley Tisdale chose this planet as the first name for her daughter, Jupiter Iris French born in March of 2021. Could Jupiter become the next Juniper? Let us know what you think.
If Jupiter isn’t quite your style, you can opt for a name that means Jupiter. Our favorite is Jovian. The name of a 4th-century Roman emperor, Jovian is both Latin and Hebrew originated. Besides meaning Jupiter this name also means “God is Merciful and Majestic”.
The planet Jupiter is also known as the ‘benevolent and abundant planet’ making Ellis and Rafferty understated space names as they match these meanings to a T.
As the Sagittarius zodiac is ruled by the planet Jupiter you could take into consideration all of Jupiter’s moons when considering a name for you baby. There is Amalthea, Callisto, Eirene, Elara, Io, Leda and Thebe.
Shining a light on another intergalactic option, we have the name Galaxy. Galaxias descends from the Greek word Gala meaning milk, representing the Milky Way. The Milky Way collides into the Sagittarius constellation where the galactic center lies.
The Sagittarius constellation's name is derived from the Latin word for archer as its stars visually represents a centaur pulling back a bow. The Kaus Media, Kaus Australis (the brightest star in the constellation) and Kaus Borealis all formed the shape of the bow. Kaus is one name that is currently unranked, making it a rare find and as an added bonus the name Kaus means bow. How fitting!
Just to the right of Kaus is Nash, a giant orange star. The name Nash has been a favorite among southerners and minimalists alike. Slowly growing in popularity on the charts Nash curently ranks at #240.
A Travelers Soul
Better get those baby gates up early. A Sagittarians spirit is born to explore. They have deep aspirations to go on grand adventures and let their spirits roam free. We have gathered the perfect names to represent their traveler soul ranging from vintage to up-and-coming.
Diving deep into the Sagittarians old soul we wanted to find some older names that could still fit the modern babe. Beatrix had made her return to the charts in 2019 at #983 but sadly didn’t stay for 2020. In fact, 2019 was the only year Beatrix has broken into the top 1,000.
Believe it or not Barbara is that one of a kind name that has revived it’s way back to the playgrounds. Alongside Peggy and Maude, Barbara has been making a comeback in some parts of the world. Even landing herself a spot on the charts at #899, a 38 spot jump from the year prior.
For some more unranked gems that’ll be unexpected in the classroom, we have Ferdinand, Galloway Peregrine, Topher and Wendelin. Out of these options, we’re torn between Peregrine and Topher. We love them both so much! We feel Peregrine’s meaning of “traveler pilgrim” fits perfectly as we’re approaching the thanksgiving festivities. Where as Topher is our favorite nickname for the name Christopher - the Saint of travel. Whether you prefer a nickname or the full name, this is one choice that can do no wrong.
Holiday Optimist
Born in the midst of the holiday celebrations Sagittarius babies truly have the holiday spirit all year ‘round. They are joyful, spirited and have an optimistic enthusiasm for life itself. Giving your baby a seasonal name that represents the holiday spirit will really warm their heart.
Similar to Jovian as mentioned earlier; we have the name Jovie. Everyone’s favorite elf brought us such a jovial spirit that genuinely captures the essence of this name. Jovie gives us a fresh take on names like Jody and Josie without being to character based. Jovie even broke into the top 1,000 for the first time in 2020 coming in at #922.
As the seasons change and the weather grows colder we crave these last few sunny days before winter is here to stay. We suggest basking in the warmth with the sunny name Apricity. Apricity is extremely rare - almost unheard to most but it’s one winter name we can’t let go of. Meaning “the warmth of the sun in winter” we love it’s serendipitous, whimsical feel as it can be considered a mashup option of April meets Felicity.
Sticking to the warmth of the season we love the name Ardelle. This name is similar to Adele but it’s no where near as popular as the powerhouse singer. Ardelle is of Latin origin meaning, “Ardent, Eager, Enthusiastic and Industrious”. We know the singer just released her brand new album this week so if you want to honor her without it being obvious, Ardelle might be the name to be loved.
Sticking to musicians, rock turned country singer Darius Rucker released a Christmas album entitled Home for the Holidays in 2014. Darius’ name matches the same ending as this zodiac making it a subtle nod to this sign. Plus with a meaning of “Possessing Goodness” their is nothing you’d want more for your little archer.
There is no better name than Brady to capture the spirit of this time of year. We know Brady is more football that the holidays but for devoted sport fans, the holidays include football games. For us, we chose this name because it literally means ‘spirited”. Surprisingly, this name has decreased in popularity over the past 15 years, however it’s not completely off the radar either. Brady came in at #305 in the year 2020 just entering the sweet spot section.
Fiery Passion
Right behind Aries and Leo, Sagittarius is the final zodiac of the fire signs making fiery names ideal for this baby. One option is Caia, the Roman Goddess of fire and women. Her name is also the feminine form of Caius, meaning '“to rejoice”. Caia definitely embodies the Sagittarian spirit all the way around and offering the nickname Kai as an option puts her on track with today’s trends.
Another celebratory fire name is Nuri, a gender neutral Aramaic name meaning “my fire, my light”. Between menorah candles and Christmas lights, Nuri checks off all the holidays. For an added seasonal bonus, some think of Nuria as a nickname for Nuria, a place name popular in Spain and Portugal to honor the Virgin Mary.
Our favorite fire name of them all is Irish Aithne. You could also opt for the angelized version Etna as Aithne is the soundalike name for the famous volcano Mount Etna.
Fore some more names meaning or related to fire check out our upcoming post on Instagram @anamingstory. Fire names will be posted on 11/24.
Run with the Wild Horses
Sagittarius’ are also intertwined with Chiron known as being born half man, half horse. The horse does represent their wildly free spirit and drive for adventure which is why names with horse meanings win the race. Popular contenders include Eowyn (horse joy), Pippa (friend and lover of horses) and Rosamund (horse protection)
Celebrity Influence
There are numerous celebrities born under the Sagittarius zodiac that you could name your baby after. The most famous females include, Billie Eilish, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Chrissy Teigen and Scarlett Johansson. The most famous males include Jamie Foxx, Brad Pitt, Jake Gyllenhaal, Charlie Puth and Jay-Z.
