The Day That Music Died

Singer-songwritter Don McLean wrote “American Pie” in 1971, refrencing the 1959 plane crash that resulted in the deaths of fellow musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and JP Richardson.

McLean’s hit song repeatedly refrences the line “the day that music died”, honoring the musicians who had passed in the plane crash on Feburary 3, 1959.

McLean also mentions various other musicians and historical events throughout his song.

62 years later, we will forever remember this historic tragedy in the rock and roll industry.

Buddy, Valen, Jiles, Don, Dylan, Elvis, Janis
